Our Vision
To be a Christ-centered, self-sustaining, orphanage/school, so that orphans and vulnerable children have the means and opportunity to overcome poverty and grow into God loving Christian adults who will contribute to making their communities a better place.
Our Mission
To care for, protect, and enable the life transformation of children in need through spiritual development, academic/agricultural education, housing, meals, clean water, health care, and vocational training. By doing so, children are empowered to strengthen and transform their families and community.
Meet the Founder
Innocent Mucunguzi
Founder, Board Member, and Ministry Director, Kabale, UG
Meet the Founder
Innocent Mucunguzi
Founder, Board Member, and Ministry Director, Kabale, UG
From a young child, Innocent was driven to advocate for the rights of the disadvantaged and marginalized. Raised with eleven older siblings in abject poverty, Innocent is no stranger to struggle. His father, a truck driver with three wives, was routinely absent—both physically and emotionally.
When Innocent's father passed away suddenly, the family lost their sole source of income. Food became scarce and hunger pains were constant. Two years later, Innocent was invited by his local church to participate in a child development program with Compassion International. From that point on, his school fees, healthcare, clothing, and food were paid for through his sponsorship, and his entire family was affected as a result. Innocent began to dream about his future; he knew then that he wanted to start a ministry to care for children in need.
After high school, Innnocent received a college scholarship through Compassion and graduated from Uganda Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He went on to receive a diploma in Human Rights as well as a Masters of Business Administration.
In addition to running his ministry, Innocent is an active member of the Uganda Civil Society and a radio program host, educating local leaders, government officials, and community members about equality and human rights.
Innocent lives in the Kabale District of Uganda with his wife Karungi and their two sons. In addition to having a great passion for Jesus Christ, he loves country music, homemade chicken pot pie, and action movies.

Meet the Board
Jim Hilger
Chairman of the Board, Colorado Springs, CO, USA
Jim faithfully embraced the responsibilities as Board Chairman when the ministry first began in 2012. He was instrumental in helping Innocent acquire PMU's 501c3 status, set up the Board, and draft the ministry, vision, objectives, and purpose. An accomplished business man with a background in finance management, Jim's worked as a manager in the auto industry for nearly 30 years and is considered the best "car guy" in the business. He loves the Lord, is an avid football fan, and is known as "Popi" to his eight grandchildren. Jim lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Catherine.

Peruth Karungi
Ministry Bursar and Accountant, Kabale, UG
Native Ugandan, Karungi grew up in the Bushenyi district. She acquired her finance degree from Ugandan Christian University where she met our founder, Innocent. After college, they married, moved to Kabale, and started PMU. She is a natural fit to serve as ministry accountant and school bursar. Karungi serves PMU faithfully with strength and integrity. Her role is critical to the Board, the children we serve, and our supporters. Karungi is a woman of faith, mother to two sons, and is affectionately known as "Sunshine" to those who know and love her.
David McBane
Board Treasurer, Colorado Springs, CO, USA
Former missionary to Pakistan, David brings a unique and dynamic perspective to our ministry. His understanding of working with local culture in the developing world has helped PMU avoid unnecessary financial setbacks. Frugal to the core, David asks the tough questions and insists clarity is achieved before a Board decision is finalized. He's a persistent advocate for accountability and integrity within the ministry. David works for Compassion International and lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife Dawn and two kids.
Catherine Hilger
Board Secretary, Colorado Springs, CO, USA
Catherine's background as a certified project management offers PMU a variety of tactical skills. Her ability to prioritize, organize, plan, and sequence work is instrumental in helping the ministry to mature and grow. She's also a great communicator and depended upon to delegate Board action items, write web content and marketing emails, and develop relationships with new and existing donors. Catherine's been "Mama" to Innocent for nearly a decade and "Grandma Kate" to her eight beloved grandchildren. Married to Board Chairman Jim Hilger, Catherine lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
