"Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice." Ecclesiastes 4:13

PPMU teachers and staff believe one is never too young to develop their leadership skills. This February, a new group of young leaders were sworn into the orphanage/school Council of Student Leadership team. Each member went through a vetting process conducted by teachers and staff. Once selected, they committed to uphold and work towards ensuring the required disciplinary standards of the school are followed by the greater student body. Multiple Council members filled the following types of roles:

  1. Head Boy
  2. Head Girl
  3. Deputy Head Boy
  4. Deputy Head Girl
  5. Health Prefect
  6. Food Prefect
  7. Timekeeper

The newly elected students will receive leadership and job training at an induction ceremony later this month. The Council will then meet once a month to discuss how the student body is behaving, if there are issues to resolve, discern if intervention is needed, or if further communication regarding school policy and standards is necessary.

To support their efforts, incidental learning charts are displayed in each classroom. If a teacher needs to step-out, a Council member is asked to review the chart contents with the class until the teacher returns. This further encourages leadership experience, additional learning, and reinforces school expectations to each class.

Overall, the Council of Leadership promotes responsibility and maturity amongst the student body. Each member is honored to serve, and we are honored to support these students in their leadership endeavors!
