Covid19 devastated the Ugandan tourism industry along with one of our self-sustainable ideas. Right before the onset of Covid19, we hoped to use our seven-passenger van to be rented by tourists for sight-seeing adventures in Uganda. It did not pan out as we had hoped - God had something better in mind.
Earlier this year, one of our Board members visited the ministry and noticed a great demand for public transportation in the Kabale district where we serve. Cars are expensive, so most locals use taxi-vans to get to and from. What if this was the income-generating opportunity we were hoping for? We did some research and determined it was a sound business venture, but a 15-passenger van was required to secure a commercial license and start a taxi service. Fortunately, we were able to trade our current van for the larger taxi-van.
The PPMU Taxi Van opened for business April 11. It's assigned route is a two-hour and 17 minute journey from Kabale to Mbarara. Our driver's name is "Niwamanya" and he is a Christian, a mechanic by profession, and has 10 years’ experience as a driver.
Our van was fitted with blue striping, a luggage rack and grill guard along with the most important piece of equipment - a sticker across the windshield with the name of Jesus! Every passenger who takes a ride will know who the overseer of the van truly is.
We are thankful to God for His provision of the new taxi-van. Please pray God will bless this new business for PPMU and for the safety of Niwamanya and his passengers on the road. May the light of Christ shine wherever they go!
