Seeing the Ministry In Person

This February one of PPMU's Board members, Paul Wiedenfeld traveled to Kabale, Uganda to see our ministry in action. He traveled more than 24 hours from his hometown in North Carolina to Kampala where he met up with our Ministry Director, Innocent Mucunguzi. From there, they traveled 10 additional hours by bus to Kabale where our orphanage/school is.

Tired but excited to meet our Ugandan team and students, they welcomed him in the Name of Jesus with joy and thanksgiving. Paul said, "I appreciated seeing the caliber of staff that are investing in the lives of the children at the school.  It is obvious that they care about their work and the development of the children." 

Paul jumped right into school activities. He served the morning porridge from our kitchen building window and taught a class on mathematics. Being surrounded by the children we serve was a true delight. He went on to say, "It was such a joy to visit the school. The children are cooperative, dedicated in their learning, and respectful toward authority and one another." The children felt very special to have someone travel so far to visit with them. They also appreciated the fact that Paul's years of service and support of the ministry is giving them hope and a future. 

Innocent showed Paul where we keep our cows, grow crops, and he even took Paul in our ministry van to deliver much needed clothing to families in the hill country. This was a moving experience as the needs are so great. Paul also had the opportunity to meet his sponsored child and his family. It was a special blessing for Paul to personally give them gifts from his family to theirs. They in turn gave Paul a basket of freshly picked corn! How generous!

It's one thing to see the school via photographs, it's another thing to see it in person. Being there enabled Paul to put all the pieces together. From the dormitories, to the kitchen, to the water well, to the latrines, to the new classrooms, it all makes sense when you're on the ground. The new classrooms were quite impressive to Paul, he said, "The school building improvements are beneficial and so eagerly and well utilized by the students and staff.  I am excited for the final classroom phase to be built so that all of the students will have permanent structures for their classrooms!" 

Innocent and his wife Karungi hosted Paul in their home and he was treated to the traditional foods of their culture like posho, beans, rice, chipati bread, and more. Paul was there a short, but packed three days and is the envy of the other PPMU Board members! One day, they too will make the trip to Kabale and enjoy seeing all God is doing to change lives through our ministry.
