This June, PPMU hosted a mid-year caregiver visitation day. It's a joyful occasion when the children who board at our school can spend quality time with their loved ones. Many of you know that in Uganda, primary and secondary schools use a boarding model. This means children leave home as earlier as fourth grade to attend and live at school. While our school is a boarding school, we are also an orphanage. This means some of our students remain at the school throughout the year. Quite often, children are raised by an elderly grandparent, older sibling, or come from a single-parent environment. Others have no biological family and are cared for by neighbors. We use the term “caregiver” to cover the broad spectrum of each child’s circumstances. The core goal is to help keep families and loved ones united with their children.
Students welcomed guests at our front gate and then led them on a tour of the campus. Visitors were pleased to see the perimeter fence, new pavers, and dormitory renovations. They know their child is well cared for at PPMU. Guests then met in classrooms where our Director and teachers shared children’s progress reports. Visits encourage caregivers to stay connected and give them the opportunity to assess their child's health, educational progress, and confirm their child's overall well-being.
The guests, students, and staff enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by the PPMU kitchen team and a little help from the kids. Everyone lines up at the kitchen window to pick up a nice plate of food. It is a joyous day for all.
Days like this would not be possible without the love and support our sponsors and donors give. We send a huge Thank You to each of you for standing with us on behalf of the poor. You have helped us give children and families hope and a future.
